The Mosaic Tile Museum’s iconic, light brown mud-like arch suddenly appears as you travel through the quaint town of Kasahara in Tajimi. The building was designed by internationally renowned architect Terunobu Fujimori, famous for his fairy tale-like architecture inspired by the earth. With the help of the local tile industries, which boast a market share of over 60% of the mosaic tiles made in Japan, they put together this museum and collection of over 10,000 tile artefacts.

The recommended way to view the museum is to slowly walk up the stairs towards the open-air section on the top floor and make your way down to each floor.
The open-air section has a collection of old and new tiles, collected from the area in the form of sinks, baths, wall pieces and toilets.
